Panama Canal Panama

The Panama Canal is 48 miles (77 kilometers) of made-made waterway that allows ships to pass from the Atlantic to Pacific Oceans. The Panama Canal has become a key trade-route for international trade. It cuts through the Isthmus of Panama (or Isthmus of Darien). An expansion – called the “Third Set of Locks Project,” added a new lane of traffic which doubled the capacity of the Panama Canal, allowing for a large number of ships as well as allowing for larger ships to pass with wider and deeper lanes and locks. This expansion was proposed in April of 2006, and opened this year – 26 June 2016.
